Thurmont Child Care Inc. and TCC Preschool and School Age Programs Inc. has an environment that provides all children with an abundance of possibilities to interact with other children. The programs welcome all abilities, and offers an appropriate developmental environment for all children by offering opportunities for the children to explore, discover, and see the world through play. Thurmont Child Care Inc. and TCC Programs has welcoming areas that are comfortable for children to play, learn, and relax. The programs offer materials that are accessible to children based on their development and age by placing the learning resources on low shelves and tables that are eye level and easily reachable for the children. Learning materials offered in our program represent different ages, cultures, interests, and languages by changing toys, books, and learning topics that relate to the children enrolled. We strongly believe that providing an environment that supports all abilities will allow children to grow together by planning stations that have topics that interest the children but also provide new challenges to increase developmental domains and self-esteem. Thurmont Child Care Inc. and TCC Programs supply children with teacher directed activities while equally providing opportunities to give child-initiated activities throughout each day. Staff at at of our programs cautiously plan for the needs of children who are enrolled in each program. Teachers will plan a developmentally appropriate environment for the students by taking in account for all developmental levels, ages, interests, cultures, skills, and abilities by observing and documenting their findings. Thurmont Child Care Inc. and TCC Programs strongly encourage all families to complete the interest survey before enrolling and becoming a larger part of our center by volunteering. The survey and volunteer opportunities will help staff plan activities and will also bring new experiences into our programs. Thurmont Child Care Inc. and TCC Programs open enrollments to all children, including children with special health care needs and disabilities. Staff will accommodate and modify activities and the classroom layout to ensure all children are respected, supported, and feel welcome while attending our programs. Staff set up activities that promote child-initiated opportunities that allow the children to explore their environment in a variety of ways; although teachers offer teacher directed activities that are led by the adult to provide the children with new experiences and skills. Staff follow schedules to ensure each day provides children the opportunity to explore, learn, and create individually and as a group.

Thurmont Child Care Inc. and TCC Preschool and School Age Programs Inc. are both inclusive programs, children with and without disabilities have access to participate in the same routines, play, and learning experiences while at our center. Our inclusive programs offer practices that benefit all children, especially children with special needs.

If your child or family has an IEP of IFSP, please supply Thurmont Child Care Inc. and TCC Preschool and School Age Programs Inc. with the individualized plan. The staff will review the plan, meet with the family, and develop a strategy to ensure the individualized plan will be met.

Philosophy

Thurmont Child Care Inc. and TCC Preschool and School Age Programs Inc. helps children develop skills and knowledge that will help them succeed in their future by using Maryland Early Learning Standards to guide our lesson planning. Our curriculum through Experience Early Learning is aligned with Maryland Early Learning Standards; these values label developmental foundations and learning standards that help set children up for success. Healthy beginnings is designed for children birth through age three. Maryland Early Learning Standards is planned for ages Pre-k through Second Grade and Maryland State Education Standards are used for Third through Fifth Grade. The curriculum starts from infancy through Pre-k and focuses on language and literacy, mathematics, social studies, science, health, physical education, fine arts and social foundations. The curriculum and Maryland Standards supply excellent guidelines that help support appropriate behaviors and develop realistic expectations. At Thurmont Child Care Inc. and TCC Programs we fully understand all children will develop in various ways and times, but using these learning standards help set mutual goals for our children. At our programs, we believe children learn through play and structured teacher directed activities, and by offering choices for children to learn according to their own abilities. Teachers will work with children at their level while also providing a positive outlook on learning. Our staff always try to incorporate children’s interest into their planning when developing lessons. Staff are able to combine children’s interest into the curriculum by observing their classroom vigorously.
